The Holy Festivals

Festival is a time to set oneself free from all other activities and rejoice in togetherness. Almost all Hindu festivals are associated with the worship of a particular deity. The Hindus have many festivals like Sankranti or Pongal, Holi, Diwali, Onam, etc. The Sankranti is celeberated in Andhra and Tamilnadu term it as Pongal and its also called the harvest festival All relatives gather enjoy themselves. The elders give clothes to the youngsters who in turn get their blessings falling at their foot which is gesture of love by elders and discipline by the youngsters. On this day Sweet Pongal, Sugar cane is a must and the whole month is auspicious and there is a saying in tamil too Thai Pirandaal Vazhi Pirakkum. The ;Onam is a Kerala festival and ;it marks the end of the summer monsoon. It was ruled by king Mahabali so well in all aspects that it was superior to heaven which annoyed Lord Indra so he sent Lord Vishnu in the form of a dwarf called Vamana to the kingdom when Mahabali after a ritual was distributing gifts. Seeing Vamana Mahabali was so happy and asked what he wanted, and Vamana just asked for three steps, Mahabali gave and the next moment Vamana took his original form Lord Maha Vishnu and with two steps covered Earth, Sky, and asked where to keep the third step Mahabali bent down and showed his head and Vamana placing his foot on Mahabalis head pushed him underworld and told him that once in a year he can come to see his kingdom and his people and that is the day celeberated as Onam. Diwali is celeberation for all ages bursting crackers wearing new dresses and eating sweets. Festivals are always eagerly awaited by young and old.
